She is named after someone very close to me, while her form takes its cue from the flower known by the same name in Spanish. There is another connection I only discovered much later: Margarita derives from the Greek \u003ci\u003emargaritēs\u003c\/i\u003e, meaning pearl. Somehow, the name had belonged in the world of jewellery all along.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLook closely and Margarita reveals how she is made. Two individually crafted filigree flowers come together to create her distinctive form. The upper flower is shaped in alto relieve, a technique I learned in Colombia that lifts the filigree away from the surface and gives it dimension. At the centre, a faceted peridot draws the eye into the intricate gold work around it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI have always loved the freedom of a brooch. There is no prescribed way to wear it and no single place where it belongs. Margarita can sit on a lapel, fasten a scarf or become part of a dress.
