Elizabeth’s great-grandmother came from this mountain region, and later generations of her family lived there for many years. On her most recent visit to Colombia, her family took her into the mountains to La Siberia. It was the first time she experienced for herself a place she had previously known through their stories.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the ring, the Dahlia takes centre stage. Elizabeth makes the flower entirely in filigree, a centuries-old goldsmithing technique she studied in greater depth in Colombia. Every petal is formed individually. Some are densely filled with fine wire, while others are built from tiny open filigree shapes. Seen together, the different patterns give the flower depth and a wonderful sense of lightness. Look more closely and the openwork has the delicacy of lace.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA faceted aquamarine is set by hand at the heart of the flower. Its clear blue brings a cool point of light to the warmth of the gold and draws the eye to the centre of the design. The Dahlia is generous in scale, giving the ring a strong presence on the hand.
