In Spanish, the name belongs to the flower that inspired the design, but its history reaches much further back to the Greek \u003ci\u003emargaritēs\u003c\/i\u003e, meaning pearl. I loved finding that small connection to the world of jewellery hidden within a name that had already meant something to me for years.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor the Cascade, I wanted to give the flower movement. A faceted 4 mm peridot sits at its centre, while fine chains fall below in long strands of faceted lapis lazuli, peridot and amethyst beads. As the earrings move, the stones move with them, catching the light and revealing flashes of blue, green and violet against the gold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Cascade is detachable, leaving the Margarita stud to be worn on its own. The stud is also available separately.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eColour is an important part of this version, but the combination does not have to remain exactly as it was designed. A faceted peridot sits at the heart of the filigree flower, surrounded on either side by five strands of 4 mm lapis lazuli beads. Their intense blue creates a beautiful contrast with the warmth of the gold and makes the fresh green of the peridot stand out even more.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe craftsmanship continues beyond the flower itself. I made the clasp entirely by hand in filigree, rather than finishing the necklace with a standard fastening. It is a detail that is easily overlooked when the piece is worn, but one that makes the necklace complete for me.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe length can be adjusted to change the way the necklace sits on the body. Worn high, the five strands wrap closely around the neck and give it the presence of a true choker. Worn slightly longer, Margarita falls lower against the neckline and the piece takes on a softer silhouette. There is no prescribed way to wear it and no single place where it belongs. Margarita can sit on a lapel, fasten a scarf or become part of a dress. A rather lovely coincidence for a flower that had already found its way into my jewellery.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Blossom is Margarita at her most extravagant. A small filigree flower, set with a 4 mm faceted peridot, sits on the ear. From it falls a second, much larger flower, its surface filled almost entirely with intricate filigree and a 6 mm peridot at its centre. There is nothing delicate about its presence. It is generous, golden and made to be seen, yet the closer you look, the more the handwork begins to emerge.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI designed the larger flower to be removable, giving the earring an entirely different character when worn without it. What remains is the Margarita stud, a refined little flower in its own right and also the starting point of the Margarita Peridot Cascade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI love having these two very different expressions of the same flower. The Cascade falls in long lines of coloured gemstones; the Blossom is all about the richness of gold and filigree.
