Each Dahlia is made in filigree, the centuries-old goldsmithing technique she studied there in greater depth. Elizabeth forms the flower petal by petal, alternating finely filled sections with open filigree shapes. The changing pattern gives the flower depth and lightness, with delicate openwork that becomes almost lace-like when seen up close.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor the necklace, Elizabeth surrounded the golden Dahlia with large faceted aquamarine beads. Their soft, luminous blue gives the piece its unmistakable presence, while small gold-plated beads placed between the stones carry touches of gold around the neck. Even the clasp is made by Elizabeth, a detail that reflects how completely the necklace is her own work. A faceted peridot sits at the heart of the filigree flower, surrounded on either side by five strands of 4 mm lapis lazuli beads. Their intense blue creates a beautiful contrast with the warmth of the gold and makes the fresh green of the peridot stand out even more.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe craftsmanship continues beyond the flower itself. I made the clasp entirely by hand in filigree, rather than finishing the necklace with a standard fastening. It is a detail that is easily overlooked when the piece is worn, but one that makes the necklace complete for me.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe length can be adjusted to change the way the necklace sits on the body. Worn high, the five strands wrap closely around the neck and give it the presence of a true choker. Worn slightly longer, Margarita falls lower against the neckline and the piece takes on a softer silhouette.
