Elizabeth’s grandmother grew up in this remote mountain region, and other members of her family lived there for many years. On one of her visits to Colombia, they took her up into the mountains to see the place that had been part of their lives.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eColombia is present in Dahlia in another way too. Each flower is made in filigree, the goldsmithing technique Elizabeth studied more deeply there. She constructs the petals individually, alternating dense sections of fine wire with open petals made from tiny filigree forms. Around the flower, intricate goldwork gives way to delicate open spaces with an almost lace-like quality. It is only at close range that the complexity of the pattern becomes apparent.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA faceted aquamarine sits at the centre, its clear blue cool against the warmth of the gold.
