Astraea first appeared unexpectedly at Elizabeth’s workbench. While working on a traditional Zeeuwse knoop, the design began to take a different direction and a flower emerged beneath her hands. Only later did she discover Astrantia, a flower known in Dutch as Zeeuws knoopje. It was this unexpected connection that gave Astraea her name.

For these long earrings, Elizabeth works with the smallest Astraea flower in the collection. Three fall beneath each ear, six in total, each individually handcrafted from two layers of filigree. Using the three-dimensional alto relieve technique, Elizabeth shapes the upper layer by hand, lifting the delicate wirework to give each flower its sculptural form.

A faceted amethyst is hand-set at the heart of every flower, with smaller faceted amethyst beads placed between them. These tiny flashes of purple create space between the flowers, allowing each one to move freely as the earrings are worn.

Bringing three of the smallest Astraea flowers together transforms the delicate design into a long statement earring, where fine filigree, deep violet amethyst and movement become part of the same composition. The individual Astraea flower is also available as a stud earring.

From First Idea to Final Detail

At Diosa del Alma, the person who imagines the jewel is also the person who makes it. Elizabeth designs and creates each piece herself, from the first idea to the moment it leaves her atelier.

This gives her the freedom to let a design evolve as she works. Proportions may shift or an unexpected detail may take the jewel in a new direction. Elizabeth enjoys leaving room for those moments rather than deciding everything in advance.

That same way of working makes personalisation a natural part of the atelier. Elizabeth can respond to individual wishes herself and shape a jewel with the person who will wear it in mind.

Elizabeth

Becoming a goldsmith was never part of the life she had imagined for herself. Until then, her career had been in the world of fashion and luxury. She had also built her own business, before serious illness unexpectedly changed the course of her life.

Several years later, during her recovery, she began learning to make jewellery. It was initially intended to support her rehabilitation, but she quickly became absorbed by the craft itself. She went on to train further as a goldsmith, discovering a direction she could never have imagined before her illness.
