Flowers have always found their way into Elizabeth’s work. Filigree gives her the freedom to explore them in endless ways, following the curve of a petal, shaping an unexpected centre or picking out a detail in fine wire. The Secret Garden continues to evolve as new flowers take shape in her designs, each with a character entirely its own.
Every jewel has a story behind it.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth never imagined that she would one day become a goldsmith.
When a serious illness changed her life completely, much of what had once seemed ordinary was suddenly no longer possible. Recovery would take years, and finding her way forward meant discovering what was still possible rather than returning to the life she had known before.
Jewellery entered her life during that time. What began as something to focus on gradually became a fascination with making, with working in precious metals and with everything her hands could learn to do. It brought back a sense of freedom and opened a creative world she had never expected to find.
Over time, that fascination became a new profession. The unexpected path that began during one of the most difficult periods of her life eventually led to Diosa del Alma.
The Atelier
Elizabeth makes every jewel by hand in her atelier. Fine threads of precious metal are twisted and rolled before she shapes them into the tiny elements that make up a design.
Making also leaves room for surprise. A design can change once it is in her hands. Something she noticed days earlier may suddenly find its place. Sometimes an experiment at the workbench becomes the beginning of a jewel she had never planned to make.
From subtle to expressive
Colour, gemstones and form are an instinctive part of Elizabeth’s design process, as is the way she mixes them. She rarely thinks of a jewel as having just one expression. The possibility of wearing it differently, and allowing its character to shift, has become part of her signature.
That sense of transformation returns throughout her work. Pieces are designed to be combined, adapted or given a more personal expression. The earrings shown here capture this beautifully: delicate filigree studs on their own, transformed with the addition of a gemstone drop into a bold statement piece.
Filigree
Filigree begins with the finest threads of gold or silver. In the hands of a goldsmith they can become intricate openwork and forms with remarkable depth.
Elizabeth learnt this extraordinary craft from a master goldsmith from Mompox in Colombia. What she discovered there was only one part of a filigree tradition stretching back thousands of years and across cultures around the world. Its many forms still fascinate her today.
Camila Blossom earrings
Camila Blossom is one of the most exceptional pieces in the collection. Hundreds of delicate filigree elements come together to form two magnificent flowers, with each pair requiring a full week of craftsmanship. The generous scale brings every detail of the handwork into view, while the open filigree keeps the earrings surprisingly light to wear.
Signature
Elizabeth follows her curiosity when she designs. She might become fascinated by the structure of a flower or an unusual colour she sees in an animal. Art and vintage pieces can send her mind in a completely different direction. Sometimes an idea is immediate. Sometimes she carries it with her for days.
This is why her work can move from exuberant colour to something far quieter without losing its identity. Filigree offers endless possibilities. There is always something new to discover.
