Astraea began with a beautiful mistake. While working on a filigree interpretation of the traditional Zeeuws knoopje, a form emerged that was not quite what Elizabeth had intended. Rather than discarding it, she saw the beginnings of something new.
Its delicate, layered shape reminded her of Astrantia, a flower also known in Dutch as Zeeuws knoopje. That unexpected connection became Astraea: a filigree flower that now appears in different scales and expressions throughout The Secret Garden.
