High in the Colombian Andes, a wild dahlia grows in a place closely tied to Elizabeth’s family history. Dahlia imperialis, known locally as dalia silvestre, is found in La Siberia near La Calera. Elizabeth’s great-grandmother came from this mountain region, and later generations of her family lived there for many years. On her most recent visit to Colombia, her family took her into the mountains to La Siberia. It was the first time she experienced for herself a place she had previously known through their stories.

In the ring, the Dahlia takes centre stage. Elizabeth makes the flower entirely in filigree, a centuries-old goldsmithing technique she studied in greater depth in Colombia. Every petal is formed individually. Some are densely filled with fine wire, while others are built from tiny open filigree shapes. Seen together, the different patterns give the flower depth and a wonderful sense of lightness. Look more closely and the openwork has the delicacy of lace.

A faceted aquamarine is set by hand at the heart of the flower. Its clear blue brings a cool point of light to the warmth of the gold and draws the eye to the centre of the design. The Dahlia is generous in scale, giving the ring a strong presence on the hand. Yet the fineness of the filigree keeps the ring beautifully refined.

From First Idea to Final Detail

At Diosa del Alma, the person who imagines the jewel is also the person who makes it. Elizabeth designs and creates each piece herself, from the first idea to the moment it leaves her atelier.

This gives her the freedom to let a design evolve as she works. Proportions may shift or an unexpected detail may take the jewel in a new direction. Elizabeth enjoys leaving room for those moments rather than deciding everything in advance.

That same way of working makes personalisation a natural part of the atelier. Elizabeth can respond to individual wishes herself and shape a jewel with the person who will wear it in mind.

Elizabeth

Becoming a goldsmith was never part of the life she had imagined for herself. Until then, her career had been in the world of fashion and luxury. She had also built her own business, before serious illness unexpectedly changed the course of her life.

Several years later, during her recovery, she began learning to make jewellery. It was initially intended to support her rehabilitation, but she quickly became absorbed by the craft itself. She went on to train further as a goldsmith, discovering a direction she could never have imagined before her illness.
