There is a wild dahlia growing high in the Colombian Andes that has particular meaning for Elizabeth. Dahlia imperialis, or dalia silvestre as it is known locally, can be found in La Siberia near La Calera. Elizabeth’s grandmother grew up in this remote mountain region, and other members of her family lived there for many years. On one of her visits to Colombia, they took her up into the mountains to see the place that had been part of their lives.

Colombia is present in Dahlia in another way too. Each flower is made in filigree, the goldsmithing technique Elizabeth studied more deeply there. She constructs the petals individually, alternating dense sections of fine wire with open petals made from tiny filigree forms. Around the flower, intricate goldwork gives way to delicate open spaces with an almost lace-like quality. It is only at close range that the complexity of the pattern becomes apparent.

A faceted aquamarine sits at the centre, its clear blue cool against the warmth of the gold. The stone catches the light at the point from which the petals radiate, drawing the entire flower back to its centre.

From First Idea to Final Detail

At Diosa del Alma, the person who imagines the jewel is also the person who makes it. Elizabeth designs and creates each piece herself, from the first idea to the moment it leaves her atelier.

This gives her the freedom to let a design evolve as she works. Proportions may shift or an unexpected detail may take the jewel in a new direction. Elizabeth enjoys leaving room for those moments rather than deciding everything in advance.

That same way of working makes personalisation a natural part of the atelier. Elizabeth can respond to individual wishes herself and shape a jewel with the person who will wear it in mind.

Elizabeth

Becoming a goldsmith was never part of the life she had imagined for herself. Until then, her career had been in the world of fashion and luxury. She had also built her own business, before serious illness unexpectedly changed the course of her life.

Several years later, during her recovery, she began learning to make jewellery. It was initially intended to support her rehabilitation, but she quickly became absorbed by the craft itself. She went on to train further as a goldsmith, discovering a direction she could never have imagined before her illness.
