Margarita is named after someone very close to me, and the flower that shares her name in Spanish became the inspiration for the design. Only later did I discover that Margarita can be traced back to the Greek margaritēs, meaning pearl. I loved finding that unexpected connection between someone I love, a flower and the world of jewellery.

In this choker, Margarita becomes the centre of a much bolder composition. A faceted peridot sits at the heart of the filigree flower, surrounded on either side by five strands of 4 mm lapis lazuli beads. Their intense blue creates a beautiful contrast with the warmth of the gold and makes the fresh green of the peridot stand out even more.

The craftsmanship continues beyond the flower itself. I made the clasp entirely by hand in filigree, rather than finishing the necklace with a standard fastening. It is a detail that is easily overlooked when the piece is worn, but one that makes the necklace complete for me.

The length can be adjusted to change the way the necklace sits on the body. Worn high, the five strands wrap closely around the neck and give it the presence of a true choker. Worn slightly longer, Margarita falls lower against the neckline and the piece takes on a softer silhouette. Two different ways of wearing a necklace that was made to be noticed from every angle.

From First Idea to Final Detail

At Diosa del Alma, the person who imagines the jewel is also the person who makes it. Elizabeth designs and creates each piece herself, from the first idea to the moment it leaves her atelier.

This gives her the freedom to let a design evolve as she works. Proportions may shift or an unexpected detail may take the jewel in a new direction. Elizabeth enjoys leaving room for those moments rather than deciding everything in advance.

That same way of working makes personalisation a natural part of the atelier. Elizabeth can respond to individual wishes herself and shape a jewel with the person who will wear it in mind.

Elizabeth

Becoming a goldsmith was never part of the life she had imagined for herself. Until then, her career had been in the world of fashion and luxury. She had also built her own business, before serious illness unexpectedly changed the course of her life.

Several years later, during her recovery, she began learning to make jewellery. It was initially intended to support her rehabilitation, but she quickly became absorbed by the craft itself. She went on to train further as a goldsmith, discovering a direction she could never have imagined before her illness.
