Rosalia Petit was made with my daughter in mind. The original Rosalia already existed, and the idea of bringing the same flower into a smaller scale felt very natural. A mother and daughter, or a grandmother and granddaughter, could wear Rosalia in different proportions, each with her own jewel but connected by the same flower. That thought became the beginning of Petit.

Although first imagined for a younger wearer, Rosalia Petit feels just as at home on a woman who simply prefers jewellery in a smaller scale. What changes is the size, not the filigree itself. Within the petals, jalado and ramales come together, two distinct fillings from the Momposina filigree tradition. Fine wire is shaped and placed by hand before the flower is carefully soldered. At this scale, every line matters.

For the necklace, the delicate flower is surrounded by colour. Tiny Ethiopian opal beads move through pink, turquoise, green, orange and soft translucent tones. As they turn against the skin, small flashes of colour appear and disappear in the light, sometimes vivid, sometimes barely there. No two beads behave quite the same way, giving the necklace a wonderfully lively and playful character.

At the centre of Rosalia sits a faceted Madagascan rubellite from Mara Gems. Its rich pink draws the eye back to the flower among all those shifting colours, while the warmth of the gold filigree brings the opals and rubellite beautifully together. More about the stone, its provenance and Mara Gems can be found under Materials & Gemstones.

From First Idea to Final Detail

At Diosa del Alma, the person who imagines the jewel is also the person who makes it. Elizabeth designs and creates each piece herself, from the first idea to the moment it leaves her atelier.

This gives her the freedom to let a design evolve as she works. Proportions may shift or an unexpected detail may take the jewel in a new direction. Elizabeth enjoys leaving room for those moments rather than deciding everything in advance.

That same way of working makes personalisation a natural part of the atelier. Elizabeth can respond to individual wishes herself and shape a jewel with the person who will wear it in mind.

Elizabeth

Becoming a goldsmith was never part of the life she had imagined for herself. Until then, her career had been in the world of fashion and luxury. She had also built her own business, before serious illness unexpectedly changed the course of her life.

Several years later, during her recovery, she began learning to make jewellery. It was initially intended to support her rehabilitation, but she quickly became absorbed by the craft itself. She went on to train further as a goldsmith, discovering a direction she could never have imagined before her illness.
