Rosalia is made for velvet. Worn close to the neck, the gold filigree rests against a soft velvet ribbon in a deep berry shade. At the heart of the flower sits a rhodolite from Mara Gems, its colour beautifully echoed in the velvet. The softness of the ribbon against the fine filigree gives Rosalia something deeply romantic, while the gold and rhodolite bring richness and elegance to the choker.

Much of Rosalia’s character lies in the filigree itself. Several techniques from the Momposina filigree tradition come together in the flower. Ramales and jalado create two distinct kinds of detail within the open petals, both worked in exceptionally fine filigree wire. Alto relieve gives Rosalia her depth, building parts of the flower above one another so the design becomes almost sculptural. Every filling and individual element is shaped, positioned and soldered by hand, giving the flower the richness and intricacy that define it.

The velvet ribbon has its own craftsmanship behind it. Each one is hand dyed by an artisan who specialises in working with this material. This version was made in a deep berry shade, but almost any colour can be created on request. The bail can also be made slightly larger, allowing Rosalia to move from one ribbon to another. A change of velvet can completely alter the mood of the jewel, while the flower itself remains the same.

At the back, the adjustable extension chain ends with another faceted rhodolite. Resting at the nape of the neck, it brings the colour of the flower back once more. It is a small detail, but a beautiful one, especially with the hair worn up.

Van ontwerp tot laatste detail

Bij Diosa del Alma blijven ontwerp en uitvoering in dezelfde handen. Elizabeth ontwerpt en vervaardigt ieder juweel zelf, van het eerste idee tot het moment waarop het haar atelier verlaat.

Dat geeft haar de vrijheid om ook tijdens het maken te blijven kijken. Een verhouding kan veranderen, een detail kan anders uitvallen dan eerst bedacht of juist ontstaan doordat ze het materiaal voor zich heeft. Tegelijk maakt die manier van werken het mogelijk om een juweel persoonlijk aan te passen aan degene die het gaat dragen. Omdat Elizabeth zelf ontwerpt én maakt, kan zij persoonlijke wensen direct meenemen in haar werk.

Goudsmid worden was nooit iets wat ze voor zichzelf had voorzien. Ze werkte jarenlang in de internationale fashion en luxewereld en had haar eigen bedrijf, tot ernstige ziekte haar leven onverwacht veranderde.

Enkele jaren later begon ze tijdens haar herstel met goudsmeden. Wat in eerste instantie bedoeld was om haar herstel te ondersteunen, werd al snel iets waar ze volledig in opging. Ze besloot zich verder te scholen in het vak en vond uiteindelijk een nieuwe richting die ze vóór haar
ziekte nooit had kunnen voorzien.
